video marketingWe have been hearing about the increase in importance of video marketing for several years now.  It’s been touted as ‘The’ thing all small businesses should be doing.  Why?  To better engage with our contacts and customers.  What better way to begin than with some video marketing research?

Video marketing enables us to better explain how our product or service can solve a client’s problem.  We can introduce ourselves and our companies to potential customers in a more personal way.  There are tons of ways video can improve your marketing, resulting in more, and better, customers.

Why You Should Use Video Marketing Tools

There are a lot of reasons we should incorporate video content into our marketing plans.  The reasons listed above are not the only reasons to be considered, by far.  Everyone has heard that adage:  ‘A picture is worth 1,000 words.’  It’s true, you know.  Our brains are wired to respond to pictures because they provide an image that is easier to remember than a page of text.

Taking one step further, video adds personality to the mix.  Most of us can determine within a few seconds whether we like or trust someone we meet.  Add in personality and customers can also fill in the ‘know’ blank of that Know-Like-Trust formula that customers crave.

Wyzowl recently released their research report on The State of Video Marketing 2019.  They surveyed over 600 people who either work in the marketing profession or are online consumers.  The survey questions were divided into the two separate categories to be sure that each group was only answering questions pertinent to their perspective.

It was interesting to see that video content, as a marketing tactic, has been growing exponentially over the past few years.  It continues to grow in use, but has not yet reached a saturation point where everyone is using it.  In their first 2015 video marketing research, video was shown to be gaining in popularity.

Over the last two years, the jump in popularity of this marketing tactic has been phenomenal.  In 2017, 63% of businesses were incorporating video into their marketing plans.  By 2018, that number jumped to 81% and is now at 87%.  Are those numbers high enough to make you understand that you need to join the In-crowd when it comes to video marketing?

Some Haven’t Jumped Into Video Marketing Yet

For those not yet using video to reach potential customers, these are a few of the reasons you are not alone, based on the research:

Benefits of Video Marketing

Why should you add video content to your marketing toolbox?  Lots of reasons!  The Wyzowl video marketing research report includes statistics regarding the top benefits/results respondents achieved from the use of marketing videos.  One of the biggest gains from using video was getting more traffic to the companies’ websites, keeping them there longer and generating leads.

I constantly hear small business owners bemoan their difficulty in getting new customers.   Video could be their answer.  The chart below covers the 5 top benefits the survey respondents got from using video marketing campaigns.

Types of Videos to Include for Your Video Marketing

There are a number of video types you might find helpful in selling your company or your products and services.

  • Explainer Videos:  Extremely helpful for potential customers to understand your products or services.  Think of these as ‘How to’ videos.
  • Brand Videos:  Explain your company and its brand in a brief, visual format.  Sure, you can include it in your website or blog content, but for today’s customers with the attention span of a gnat, a few minutes of video can be more effective.
  • ‘About Us’ videos:  Show potential customers who runs your business, who is on the phone when they call, who makes the product or performs the services.  Further, include your Company Culture in the video.  If you are a relaxed, dress-down kind of company, show it.  Add light humor if that explains who you are
  • Testimonial Videos:  Social proof of your competency in a few lines of website text is one thing.  But, having that same customer on video verbally expressing their love of your product or working with your team is more believable.

Lights, Camera, Action!  Time to Begin Video Marketing

The Wyzowl report provides easy to understand and digest data, tips and trends that any small business can use to move toward video marketing.  I know, you think it’s horribly expensive, but it’s not necessarily as expensive as one might think.  If you want someone to write a script, tape the video on their expensive equipment in their expensive studio, edit it, and create voice overs, sure, a video can get pretty expensive.

But, remember, there are many DIY tech options available today that are pretty inexpensive.    As far as filming goes, try starting with the video feature on your cell phone. All right, your DIY videos may not be perfect at first, but remember that practice can make perfect or at least provide much better results.  YouTube and a number of other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn all offer video features you can use.  The report includes a long list of online channels you can use to use your marketing videos.

Grab a copy of Wyzowl’s report today and get started.   Don’t wait any longer to add video to your marketing plan.  If you need help creating a strategy for how to add this awesome tool to your marketing toolbox, we can help.  Just give us a call, or send an email .  Not sure what you should include in your first video?  We can help with that as well.  Just don’t wait any longer to add this hot ‘new’ tactic to your plans to grow your small business.
