With Labor Day behind us, it occurred to me there won’t be another holiday to celebrate until Thanksgiving rolls around at the end of November.  Nor will we have another regular holiday to tie into our marketing strategies for a couple of months.  Never fear!  There all kinds of official and unofficial recognitions, observations and celebrations scheduled for every month of the year.  Maybe it’s time to give your company recognition.

Types of Recognition and Observances

give your company recognitionSome ‘special’ days serve as reminders of health and wellness issues.  Others give a nod to some particular fruit or vegetable.  Yet others are just off the wall ‘official anything you can think of ‘ observances.  Some are national in scope, others are international.   Whether it’s a celebration or an observation of some kind, you can bet that you’ll hear about a few of the better known ones.   There are dozens of others you’ll never hear of at all.

I ran through a list of September observances.  Several caught my attention as a small business owner and strategist working with the interior design and furnishings industry.  Maybe one or more of these ought to be at the top of your list of things to think about in September.  See if you can find a way to wind one of them into your marketing efforts this month or make use of one to advance your business.

How You Can Give Your Company Recognition

So, while the rest of the world is busy observing  and recognizing rice, head-lice, mold, honey and happy cats this month (I am not making these up, honestly), pick one from the list above.  First, focus on a new strategy to do something to move you and  your business a little closer to success.  Then, use that new strategy to get your brand noticed by your ideal customers.

It’s not that difficult a task:  internally, you can get your team to work on strategic thinking.  If you own a furniture store, National Home Furnishing Month opens up a variety of marketing opportunities.  Help customers improve their people skills.  Just do some shameless self- promotion.  If there is no holiday to market around, find new ways to get your company recognition with the public.

To get you started, check out these potential sources of weird or unusual ‘holidays’ as well as some that are just not as well known as our major holidays. Start with Weird Holiday.   Then check out Bonnielocks for some crazy, unofficial holidays and events.  My personal favorite is Holiday Insights.  Scan the next several months for different holidays and events that can create some interest in your firm and buzz about your unique marketing strategies.

Happy September, and much success this month!
